You’re all probably aware that Tom and I co-host the Music Manumit Podcast. Most of you are also probably aware of at least some of the reasons why I have hit a time-crunch…which will probably be done, at least temporarily, toward the end of the month. If you don’t and you’re curious, let me know…but I don’t want it in a public forum just yet.

I just wanted to share some recent music podcasts I’ve found/just started: [link] Should be pretty obvious from the name. [link] This is not just a podcast, but a site designed to “rival” billboard. Lorenzo’s Music (Tom’s band) is currently charting at #2. I’d suggest any

anyone in !ommad want to help my father write distro/textbook? It’s quite an interesting project but one I can’t do now
@tmray I just made @allgood2 and @dcostalis (and my account here) admins on !ommad in case we start getting spam.

i don’t know of anywhere off the top of my head, but i know that if you have the acapella and the actual complete song you can invert the acapella<[link]>and it will essentially turn the song into an instrumental. complicated
Did some Googling and didn’t come up with much. Is there a good place to get instrumental (you know, karaoke [but I don’t need lyrics]) versions of songs? Douglas A. Whitfield

@lahabana I was responding to the discussion you were having with someone else, not your post to !ommad
@lahabana I think libre (at least in English) has a pretty clear definition and -ND and -NC aren’t it. that’s why !ommad uses “open”
!ommad have a look to http://digilibre.com a weblog publishing good free music (a lot from jamendo)
no. the jamendo app does what the site does pretty much. And jamendo doesn’t have last.fm integration (as far as I know)on the site. Which is too bad cuz I know that amarok has jamendo built in and last.fm scrobbling so you can get the tracks (i think) you play on jamendo to scrobble on last.fm. I know
Does it have built in Last.fm scrobbling (the Jamendo app)? I think that’s a cool feature…wish it did libre.fm, of course. It allows you to get lyrics if they are available. You can build playlists, but I’ve only just begun playing with that. I do not like how it immediately starts playing an album once you click on it. Now
There is a jamendo iPhone app it’s pretty good but it only lets you choose a set choice of radio genres unlike the last.fm app that lets you just create one. tom On Fri, Nov 6, 2009 at 10:03 PM, Douglas A. Whitfield
Does anyone know if there are Libre.fm and Jamendo iPhone apps? Well, there are for Android. I had never taken a look at Google Listen before, but Linux Outlaws (on a different show than the one mentioned before) gave it a good review, so I’m checking it out. Ping me if you’re interested in know more.
After the original venue fell through I contacted the Frequency again but I got busy with work and my own band and really just forgot about it. I will try and follow though in the next week and get the ball rolling again. Sorry ‘bout that. tom

There hasn’t been an update here in over a month. Where are we on a venue? Is The Frequency backing out?

Sadly after meeting with Mark and his co-owner at the studio, the partner was not interested in them hosting the event. They are currently using the warehouse to store equipment from a transitional move and have no where else to put it for a while. So security of items and such were a concern.
@tmray what’s the lastest on the !ommad venue? Anything I can do to help?

I’m thinking for the OEMad event on Nov1 we should try to have as much “local” music as possible. I don’t know if we’ll be able to do this with just Wisconsin, so let’s do midwest…and let’s define midwest as broadly as possible. No bickering about what is really midwest, but let’s try to keep it as local as possible. Please label the band...

I have two acts that have confirmed that they would like to play. One is Professor Kliq, as I mentioned before. Unless a very well-known act steps forward, I’d recommend him finishing off the night. Not because i personally represent him, but because his music tends to get people dancing like crazy, especially after a few drinks, and the way
Jeffrey Powers said he was interested, no? I know Chris Lay (former head of UW Students for Free Culture) is interested.
I just wanted to start a new thread to discuss bands and musicians for the event so it doesn’t get buried in the other discussions in the group. As of now, we have: Lorenzo’s Music (my band) Professor Kliq (Daniel)
I know Daniel had mentioned originally thru emails to Doug and I he had 4 bands lined up but I haven’t heard back about this since then.
@dcostalis to clarify earlier dent, !ommad is being organized by diff, overlapping group of people than @oemad. like having an officer list
@dcostalis @tmray & I are discussin @oemad not !ommad. @oemad has thus been vry discussion based, which is fine…but think should branchout
enjoying planning !ommad more than !oe since I feel like I have an actual target audience for Open Music Madison
a couple of these are pretty cool !ommad http://key4song.lingolinda.com/intervals/musicfonts.html
